If your one and only true love is pizza – then this is the post for you. Here, you’ll find the top 10 authentic pizza spots in Hamburg guaranteed to fulfill your craving and give you a true Italian experience – Italian approved!

1. Il FORNO

Finally an authentic pizzeria has arrived in the city straight from Naples! This little pizzeria is located in Winderhud. All of its pizzas are cooked to perfection in a wood-burning oven – providing an authentic experience by maintaining an original taste.  The soft and fluffy dough is baked to perfection, and all the ingredients used are the freshest around. At last, you don’t have to travel all the way to the other side of Europe to enjoy a nice slice of Naples!

2. AL VOLO

This spot in Eppendorfer Weg offers a superb fresh tasting pizza, with a doughy crust charred just the right amount! The menu includes dough-heavy appetizers such as Focaccine Fritte (with prosciutto or cheese), Panzerotti, or fried rice Arancini – perfect for sharing between two or more.

My recommendation: Opt for the Pizza Pane with Bufala and Pesto – the perfect mix of quality dough with quality ingredients.

3. CAFE’-I VIGNERI

I feel at home every time I enter this cozy little bistro in the heart of the city. The staff is genuinely nice and guaranteed to make you feel welcome. For a perfect “Italian style” lunch, enjoy a delicious pizza or salad with burrata or mozzarella. Fassona burgers and fresh pasta are also at the top of my list. If you’re lucky enough, get a taste of their out-of-this-world focaccia!

4. MAMMA MIA

Mamma Mia does not mess around! Pizzas are cooked in an original wood-burning oven and the perfect ratio of melted mozzarella to tomato sauce will not not leave you disappointed. Please note though, the pizza here is best for lovers of thin and crunchy pizza dough. Perfecto!

5. GLORIA

Although not an authentic Italian spot, this café-bar serves really good pizza, mostly due to its use of top-notch ingredients. Don’t expect to find the typical Neapolitan dough here, though. Instead, expect the thin and crunchy. I highly recommended this spot for an evening with friends over pizza, burgers and a great in-house beer.

6. LA LOCANDA

For a nice atmosphere and rich menu, with a great variety of pizzas, pasta and other original Italian dishes, try out this spot. During the Summer season, this spot is extra special – be sure to revel in the nice weather and eat outside while enjoying views of the romantic street. My ultimate recommendation? The truffle pizza with arugula.

7. FOCACCERIA BONASSOLA

This may not be a pizzeria, but you can find the best Focaccia in town at this spot! Hop on over to take a few slices to go, or dine-in and enjoy the rustica aura of the place. Try the original recipe from Genova – with onions, cheese, or tomato. Once you start off with that first slice I promise – you won’t be able to get enough!

8. LENTINI

This authentic Italian restaurant in the heart of Eppendorf passes the just-perfect pizza-tasting-test: Not too thick, not too thin, not too doughy…but just right!

9. HATE HARRY

Again, this place is also not an Italian original. But it’s still worth adding to the list. The atmosphere in this casual restaurant, located in Schanze, is enchanting, with scattered candles lighting up the room. The menu is diverse – offering burgers, pizza, salads, and more.

My recommendation: Opt for the pizza with goat cheese (crispy & thin!)

10. SLIM JIM

This hipster place in Schanze has its fair share of charm and allure. Expect to stand in a long queue before making your way inside…but it’s worth the wait for the pizza. Here, you’ll be charged by the topping, so feel free to throw in as many ingredients as you’d like. It’s a build-your-own (DIY) pizza type of spot! The sky is the limit – so don’t hold back!
